Understanding parts choices

The parts on your estimate have a big effect on both the price and the warranty.

OEM parts

Original equipment manufacturer parts are made by or for the car's maker. They usually fit exactly and often cost the most.

Aftermarket parts

These are made by other companies to fit your car. Quality ranges from excellent to poor, so ask about the brand and the warranty.

Used or salvage parts

Taken from another vehicle, these can save money on body parts or large components. Ask how they were tested and whether any warranty comes with them.

Remanufactured parts

These are used parts rebuilt to work like new, common for alternators, starters and transmissions. They often come with a warranty and cost less than new.
